DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΟ ΠΟΙΗΜΑ
Την τελευταία φορά, στo πλαίσιo του μαθήματος project παρακολουθήσαμε την ταινία dangerous minds στην οποία η δασκάλα μιας τάξης, για να κάνει πιο προσιτό το μάθημα στους μαθητές χρησιμοποίησε το ποίημα ‘‘do not gentle into that good night’’ του Ντίλαν Τόμας, το ποίημα του οποίου θα αναλυθεί στο συγκεκριμένο άρθρο. Το ποίημα αυτό είναι μία απολογία ενός γιου στο πατέρα του λίγο πριν το θάνατο του προσπαθώντας να τον πείσει πως όλοι οι άνθρωποι έχουν το ίδιο τέλος και όταν τελειώνει το ποίημα προσπαθεί να αναβάλλει το θάνατο του πατέρα, μάταια όμως. Ωστόσο, ο Ντίλαν Τόμας αφήνει και το δικό του μήνυμα αναφέροντας πως ο κάθε άνθρωπος θα πρέπει να προσπαθεί ως το τέλος να πολεμάει έναντι του αναπότρεπτου και να μην αφήσει εν λευκώ τη ζωή του.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
